Off-season attractions are now a critical part of ski area and ski resort planning to earn summer revenues, and offset unpredictable winters. Common attractions include mountain slides, thermal water parks, mountain bike parks, climbing walls, bungee trampolines and tube rides.

Terrain and environment are serious considerations when planning an attraction. It may be difficult to gain permits and licenses for attractions that dramatically or permanently change the landscape. Some attractions require careful planning, and may take years to implement.

Budget and investment funds are also important issues, and must be reviewed carefully when planning a new resort attraction. The easiest way to start investing in summer, or accentuate existing programs, is to choose the option that is the simplest to implement, and offers the quickest return on the investment.
